PE Cling Film — PVC-Free Polyethylene Food Wrap

SUNWRAP PE cling film is a food-grade polyethylene food wrap — a non-chlorinated alternative to traditional PVC cling film. It is microwave-safe, freezer-safe down to –40°C, PVC-free and plasticizer-free, and is produced on a brand-new production line commissioned in 2025 at our Ningbo Qianwan New Area plant. Importers who already know our 20-year PVC product can now source PE from the same factory, same QC system, and same export team.

We launched PE to respond to a clear buyer signal: a growing share of importers in the Philippines, Indonesia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are being asked by their downstream customers for a “PVC-free” option — either for microwave reheating, for children’s and health-food lines, or simply to match global FMCG trends. Rather than watch that demand walk to another supplier, we built the capability in-house.

As a reminder of who you are buying from: SUNWRAP / SYC is the brand of Ningbo Sanrong New Materials Co., Ltd. (formerly Dalian Sanrong Chemical Co., Ltd.), a Korean-invested manufacturer operating since April 2004 and recognized as one of China’s top-ten cling-film brands.

Key benefits

  • PVC-free and plasticizer-free. Addresses buyer questions about phthalates and chlorinated plastics directly — relevant for children’s lines, health-food brands and export markets trending toward stricter materials rules.
  • Microwave-safe. Unlike PVC, PE cling film can be used to cover food during short microwave reheating, which is the single most common consumer complaint about PVC wrap.
  • Freezer-tolerant to –40°C. Ideal for frozen meat, fish and ready-meal storage without the brittleness PVC shows at low temperatures.
  • Clean burn-off and recycling profile. PE is compatible with standard LDPE recycling streams in most markets; no chlorine emissions on incineration.
  • Same factory, same QC. Produced in the same food-grade cleanroom environment as our PVC line, under the same SGS-tested, FDA-compliant standards.

Specifications

Standard thickness ranges from 9 to 20 microns — slightly thicker than PVC to compensate for PE’s different mechanical behavior. Common widths are 250mm, 300mm, 380mm and 450mm; common lengths are 100m, 200m, 300m and 500m for finished retail/HORECA packs. Jumbo rolls are available on request. Cores are 1”, 1.5” or 3” ID. The material is cleared for microwave use (short-duration reheating, not cooking) and rated for freezer storage down to –40°C. Cling is moderate — lower than PVC — and is adequate for home and HORECA use, but buyers who run high-speed supermarket tray-wrappers generally still prefer our PVC product.

Applications / Who uses this

  • Supermarket chains with private-label “PVC-free” or “microwave-safe” consumer SKUs.
  • Health-food and children’s-food brands that need to put a PVC-free claim on the pack.
  • HORECA groups that reheat prepared food in microwaves.
  • Frozen-food processors who wrap product destined for deep-freeze chains.
  • Food-delivery and ready-meal companies whose end customer reheats the pack.
  • Importers in markets preparing for tighter plastics regulation who want a dual PVC / PE supplier relationship already in place.

Positioning: PE vs PVC — honest guidance

We do not pretend PE is a drop-in replacement for PVC. For supermarket fresh-meat tray-wrapping, PVC still wins on clarity and self-cling, and it is cheaper per square meter. For microwave reheating, freezer storage and consumer-facing “PVC-free” SKUs, PE wins. Most of our export buyers end up sourcing both from us — PVC for the fresh counter, PE for the home-use consumer line — which is exactly why we built the PE line inside the same facility.

Biodegradable / compostable roadmap

The SEMrush data in our export research shows a steady global demand for “biodegradable cling film” and “compostable cling film suppliers.” Our standard PE cling film is not currently certified compostable or biodegradable — we will not market it as such. A certified compostable product is on our 2026 roadmap; if you are an importer with a firm compostable project, please contact the export team early so we can align the specification and certification path with your target market.

Manufacturing and quality control

The PE line runs inside the same food-grade cleanroom as our PVC production. Incoming LDPE / LLDPE resin is batch-tested, extrusion is monitored in-line for thickness uniformity, and finished rolls are checked for clarity, cling and odor. Retained samples are held against every export lot for at least 12 months. The plant carries the same SGS testing and FDA-compliant food-contact documentation as our PVC range.

Shipping and export

PE cling film is exported under HS code 3920.10 (plastic film of polymers of ethylene). Default quotation is FOB Ningbo; CIF and CFR to your destination port are available on request. From Ningbo-Zhoushan Port — about 40 km from our plant — transit is 3–5 days to Ho Chi Minh, 5–7 days to Manila and Bangkok, 7–10 days to Jakarta, 15–20 days to Alexandria, and 18–25 days to Jebel Ali and Lagos.

Custom options

Private-label printing, custom widths, lengths, core sizes and multi-language labels are all available on the PE line. Artwork, MOQ and tooling details are the same as our PVC OEM program — see the Custom / OEM cling film page.

FAQ

What is the difference between PE and PVC cling film? PE is PVC-free, plasticizer-free and microwave-safe, with lower cling and slightly lower clarity than PVC. PVC has stronger cling and higher clarity and remains the supermarket fresh-counter standard. Most buyers run both.

Is the PE cling film biodegradable or compostable? No — our standard PE is a conventional polyethylene food wrap, PVC-free but not certified compostable. A certified compostable film is on our 2026 roadmap.

Is the PE line already running? Yes — commissioned 2025 at our Ningbo plant, same cleanroom and same QC as the PVC line.

What is the MOQ? One 20GP container for jumbo rolls, or 500 cartons for consumer packs. Mixed PVC + PE containers are supported.

Can you do private label? Yes — same OEM program as the PVC line.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PE and PVC cling film?+

PE (polyethylene) cling film is PVC-free and plasticizer-free. It is safe for microwave use and cold-tolerant down to –40°C, but its self-cling is lower than PVC and it is slightly less transparent. PVC film has stronger cling and better clarity — preferred at supermarket fresh counters — while PE is preferred for home use, microwave reheating, freezer storage and markets where buyers specifically request non-chlorinated materials.

Is your PE cling film biodegradable or compostable?+

Our standard PE cling film is a conventional polyethylene food wrap — PVC-free and plasticizer-free, but not certified biodegradable or compostable. A certified compostable film is on our 2026 product roadmap. If you need certified compostable or bio-based material today, please tell us the destination market and we will advise on timing.

Is the PE cling film production line already running?+

Yes. The PE line was commissioned in 2025 at our Ningbo Qianwan New Area plant in Cixi, alongside the existing PVC lines. It is an addition, not a replacement — we produce both PVC and PE cling film in the same facility.

What is the MOQ for PE cling film?+

One 20GP container for jumbo rolls, or 500 cartons for finished consumer packs. Trial orders and mixed containers with PVC product are negotiable.

Can you produce PE cling film under our own brand?+

Yes. Private-label and OEM printing are supported on the PE line on the same terms as our PVC product. See the Custom / OEM cling film page for artwork and MOQ details.

Which Incoterms and payment terms apply?+

FOB Ningbo as default; CIF / CFR / EXW available. 30% T/T deposit + 70% against copy of B/L, or irrevocable L/C at sight for larger orders.
